Histology of the nervous system

The Histology of the nerve tissue Unit performs processing of different kind of tissue samples in order to qualitative and quantitative evaluate them through optical and/or confocal microscope techniques.
To this end, the platform has qualified and experienced technical staff and equipment with a large range of features (see the list below)
The Unit is available to INc groups, UAB researchers and public and private entities.
Tasks performed by the technician:
  1. Maintenance and coordination of the use of INc’s common equipment from their field of expertise.
  2. Training in specific techniques developed by the specialist technician.
  3. Mandatory training for users in self-service regime.
  4. Execution of experimental procedures by the specialist technician.
Available techniques:
1. Histological processing for paraffin embedding (only by technician):
(Only by the technician)
(Self-service allowed)
2. Histological processing for freezing
3. Histological sections:
4. Stains (Colorimetric or fluorescent In situ hibridization, hematoxylin-eosin, toluidine blue, cresyl violet, Hoechst), histochemistry and immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence
INc members have preference over non-members and within these groups, those which have not previously used the equipment will have preference over those who have used it recently. Another important factor is a first arrive first serve basis, and the possibility of the technician to carry on different projects at a time.
The costs of conducting training or experimental procedures are split into two concepts:
• Used material: consumables (reagents...) not provided by the researcher and equipment use
• Technician hours: different rates depending on the user link with the UAB:
