Dr. Jordi Ortiz is Associate Professor at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Schools of Medicine and Biosciences, where he teaches Metabolism, Molecular Pharmacology and Neurosciences. He mentors Masters and PhD students of the programs in Neurosciences and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine. Jordi Ortiz earned the Bachelor of Biological Sciences in 1986 and the PhD degree in 1991, both at the Universitat de Barcelona. He performed postdoctoral research at Yale University, USA (1992-1994) and Université Paris Descartes, France (1995-1996). He joined the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona in 1997, where he obtained tenure in 2006. During that year he was also Visiting Professor at the University Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Jordi Ortiz is a principal investigator at the Laboratory of Molecular Neuropharmacology and Bioinformatics research group, in which his own laboratory:

Dr. Jordi Ortiz research focuses on biochemical targets for psychotropic drugs, including drugs of abuse, antipsychotics and antidepressants. He has gained experience in this field by using a variety of experimental approaches, from animal behavior to molecular pharmacology, biochemistry and brain histology, devoted to understand the mechanism of action of these drugs and to improve treatment strategies.
Currently his research is coordinated with that of Dr. Jesus Giraldo in a multidisciplinary task devoted to integrate experimental, mathematic and mechanistic explanations of receptor function relevant to neuropharmacology to improve mathematic and mechanistic explanations of receptor function relevant to neuropharmacology.
This research is funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad (SAF2014 to 2017) under the title “Integrated mathematical, computational and biochemical investigation of the crosstalk between metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 and dopamine D2 receptor: Relevance for the treatment of schizophrenia”.
Jordi Ortiz is also participating in the Spanish Red de Trastornos Adictivos ( in close collaboration with Drs. Antonio Armario and Roser Nadal in the project “Neurobiology, Medical Consequences and Therapeutics of Alcoholism”
